BookCon 2017!

IMG_20170604_110640_571.jpgAnother year, another BookCon!

I love BookCon, despite it’s many faults. I love seeing book fans and being there with friends and going to panels and autographing lines. I always get emotional and I always leave with a fire under my ass, because I’m always imagining myself on the other side of the booth, of the table, greeting fans of my own books.

I always tend to write the most in the days following BookCon, despite how tired I am afterwards.

I went to BookCon this year with some friend; of course, I was with JM Tuckerman the whole time, and two of the former Robin girls, Emily & Liz, completed the group. We had a great time, despite sleeping in the creepiest hotel ever.

IMG_20170603_174514_541.jpgOf course, I went to the Marie Lu autographing session, despite having all of her current series (I honestly was hoping to nab the Warcross arc, but no such luck. I almost had a panic attack in the crowd of people that mobbed the Penguin booth) & the Susan Dennard signing (she’s just such a lovely person and I love seeing her). I also ended up going to the Welcome to Night Vale signing, despite barely listening to the podcast, because my boyfriend is such a huge fan and he wanted his book signed.

The ARC & tote bag haul was pretty minimal this year. Usually, I’ve got 20 ARCs in hand and 8 tote bags, but no such luck this year. I did manage to pick up an ARC for The Girl With The Red Balloon by Katherine Locke, which I’ve seen on Twitter and have been dying to get my hands on a review copy.

I’m definitely looking forward to hitting up BookCon again in 2018, though hopefully I’ll be able to afford tickets to BEA too!

Spring’s Coming!

It’s been so gorgeous the last couple of days in my neck of the woods. Sure, it’s only been in the high 40s, low 50s, but it’s better than freezing my butt off in the snow! So, of course, with the coming warm weather, I’ve decided to knit myself a new scarf and fluffywp-1456879719737.jpg hat. Because, what rational adult dresses for the weather, am I right?

I know it doesn’t look like much, but that blue scarf is going to be pretty darn cute, and if anyone else knits, I’m using Purl Soho’s free pattern – Dovetail Scarf!

I’m also going to make a red one to use as a Scarlet Guard scarf for the next time I meet Victoria Aveyard, which will be at BookCon in May! I’m so excited. I’m tempted to either keep the red one, or give it to Victoria, if she’s able to take it.

I wanted to make something for her the last time I saw her, at a book signing she did with Sophie Jordan in Bensalem, PA a few weeks ago for the Glass Sword book tour. I finished reading Glass Sword there, and at least I was able to cry in a crowd of fans who understood my pain. (Don’t talk to me about chapter 26. I’ll never be okay again.)

wp-1456879934743.jpgI didn’t have the time to knit something for the book signing, since I completely forgot about it until a few days before, and by then it was too late. I might have been able to finish up one of my fluffy hats, since those take just a few hours to knit up, but I had left my hat knit at home.

On the bright side, BookCon is two months away and that’s plenty of time to knit things for my favorite authors!

I pre-ordered Ava Jae’s Beyond the Red, which should be coming in the mail any day now, and I’m so beyond excited to read it. I’ve been following Ava’s blog for ages, and she’s given some great advice, and her occasional giveaways are a hoot. Her book is out today, March 1st now! Go get it!

Speaking of getting books, I’ve become super obsessed with monthly book subscriptions. Which is a bad thing for my wallet, but good for my growing library! A friend of mine has been subscribed to Bookcase.Club for a while, and I was intrigued, so I signed up for their Sci-Fi/Fantasy box, and hopefully I’ll be getting next month’s books in the mail in April. Maybe this month’s if I got in just under the wire. Mwahaha!

But I also subscribed to Uppercase‘s book box too, and I’m a little too late for their March box, but I can’t wait for the April box! Since Uppercase specializes in YA books and my Bookcase.Club subscription is for SF/F, I’ll be getting everything I love every month! Not to mention the half dozen books I already buy when I go out to B&N. I should probably budget my money better, but hey, have money, will spend (on books)!

Post Book-Con Thoughts

It’s been over twenty-four hours since I’ve come home from my first ever BookCon. I’ve been meaning to go since it was still Reader’s Day, and let me say, I was so happy to go.

BookCon is coming!

Ooooh boy am I excited! BookCon is just about here and I’m so ready to go!

I’ve been trying to get my butt out to BookCon back when it was still BEA’s Reader’s Day, but things kept coming up. But I’ve cleared my schedule and JM Tuckerman and I are heading out to NYC Saturday morning for some book loving fun!

I’m also trying to figure out what books to bring with me to get signed. I know I won’t get to see John Green, since that’s going to be a huge line to get in and I’m not about that life, but I’d love to see Marie Lu and I’m not 100% positive if she’s signing anything, but I’d love for her to sign my copy of Legend. I also promised my sister I’d get one of her Sarah Dessen books signed for her. If anything, I’ll bring a sharpie along and have folks sign my Kindle case. Maybe I should print up some book plates? People seem to be doing that often.

Some quick announcements:

  • Keep a lookout for some videos JM Tuckerman and I will be posting, both on our individual sites and of course over at Round Robin Writes. We’ll be doing some vlogging from BookCon and we’ll be doing Book Reaction videos (alternatively 5-10-To The End Reaction videos) of books we read.
  • Round Robin Writes is still looking for new writers! Check out our application page here!
